Pennsylvania Joins $45 Million Multistate Settlement With Cash App

What happened: AG Dave Sunday announced Pennsylvania is part of a $45 million multistate settlement with Block, Inc. (Cash App), resolving allegations the company misled consumers about fraud protections while marketing direct deposit to unbanked and underbanked users without adequate phone support. PA will receive about $1.1 million for consumer protection and education efforts. The settlement requires live phone support at least 13.5 hours daily and direct consumer fraud education going forward.

Why it matters for Pennsylvania nonprofits: The settlement funds are earmarked for consumer education efforts nonprofits may be positioned to partner on (e.g., organizations doing financial literacy, asset-building, or direct work with unbanked and underbanked populations).

Where things stand: Settlement finalized and announced this week.
