How to Become Accredited or Recognized
Accreditation & Recognition Pathways
Nonprofits that are demonstrating the benchmarks outlined in the Standards for Excellence code (R) may choose to pursue formal recognition to demonstrate their commitment to ethical governance, accountability, and equity.
The Standards for Excellence program offers multiple recognition pathways based on an organization’s readiness and capacity, and organizations will go through a rigorous process to review their documentation and provide feedback before achieving recognition. There are fees associated with this application process, ranging from $350 – $6,300 depending on the type of application and the size of the organization, and the cost can be spread out over time.

Standards Basics Recognition is designed for organizations that have foundational governance and compliance practices in place. This pathway focuses on core policies and systems and serves as an entry point for small, new, and emerging nonprofits.
Standards for Excellence Accreditation represents the highest level of recognition. Organizations pursuing accreditation undergo a comprehensive, independent review of their policies, procedures, and practices to demonstrate full alignment with the Standards for Excellence Code. Accredited organizations earn the Seal of Excellence, signaling a strong commitment to transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement.
