Ann EcholsgreenWells, Inc.

A seasoned nonprofit leader and certified consultant, I bring decades of experience spanning academia, research, and hands-on community engagement to help mission-driven organizations grow, govern effectively, and maximize impact.

Since 2018, I have served as a full-time volunteer and founded Volunteer Centre County (volunteercentrecounty.org), where I continue as Executive Director. In this role, I work at the intersection of volunteer engagement, organizational strategy, and community capacity-building—connecting nonprofits with the talent and structure they need to thrive.

My consulting perspective is grounded in both certification and practice. I am a Certified Volunteer Administrator (CVA) through the Council for Certification in Volunteer Administration and a certified nonprofit consultant through the Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations. I actively serve across the nonprofit ecosystem, including leadership and volunteer roles with Big Brothers Big Sisters (8 years of mentoring service), Centre County Master Gardeners (10+ years, including Adult Outreach and training committee service), Mount Nittany Hospital, Park Forest Preschool (Treasurer), and the Centre County Council for Human Services (Board Member). I am also a member of Rotary International through the State College Downtown Rotary.

Prior to dedicating myself fully to nonprofit service, I spent my academic career as a faculty member at leading institutions including Pennsylvania State University’s Smeal College of Business, Bucknell University’s Freeman College of Management, and Juniata College. Even after retiring in 2018, I continued contributing as an adjunct instructor at Pennsylvania State University, teaching in programs such as Health Policy, the School of Engineering Design, Technology, and Professional Programs, and the School of Labor and Employment Relations.

My research and teaching have long focused on entrepreneurship, venture capital networks supporting IPOs, technology timing, and university research parks—before evolving into service learning and nonprofit leadership. At Juniata College, I developed and taught a nonprofit leadership course specifically designed for executive directors, further bridging academic insight with practical application.

Today, I leverage this unique combination of scholarly rigor, executive leadership, and deep volunteer experience to advise nonprofits on governance, strategy, volunteer systems, and sustainable growth—helping organizations move from good intentions to measurable impact. I value being approachable, practical, grounded, thoughtful, thorough, constructively critical, and analytical.
